Undergraduate

UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The following admission guidelines do not guarantee entry into a program of studies as each application is assessed on a case by case basis.
General Requirements:
The general academic requirements for admission into undergraduate degree program of UTHM are :
  1. At least three (3) principal passes in the General Certificate of Education ‘Advanced level’ (GCE) ‘A’ Level Examination (UK Educational System) obtained in one sitting; OR
  2. International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum of six (6) subjects obtained in one sitting ; OR
  3. Diploma or any other Equivalent Qualification recognized by the Government of Malaysia and approved by the Senate of the University; OR
  4. Any other qualifications that are recognized by the Senate of the University as equivalent to the above. AND
  5. The qualification and entry requirements for the programs will be determined based on “THE LIST OF ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENT” published by Malaysian Qualification Agenc (MQA). 

ENGLISH REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are required to provide satisfactory evidence of English language proficiency, generally in the form of an IELTS score of minimum 4.5 or TOEFL (IBT) score of minimum 33 marks / Essential Online score of minimum 6.5 marks or MUET score of minimum Band 3.0 and above or PTE score of minimum 43 marks

Specific Requirements by Faculties

Faculty of Civil Engineering and Built Environment

Bachelor of Civil Engineering with Honours (BFF)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

Note:-

University will determine the merit and suitability of the applicant's academic grades received from home country.

University reserves the right to determine an alternative relevant subject to Mathematics in the case where the applicant has not taken the subject in his/her examinations.

The applicant must be physically able to do laboratory work.
Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BFR)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics and EITHER Physics / Chemistry / Biology / Science / Engineering Drawing; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject AND
  3. Candidates must attend an interview session with the faculty

Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Bachelor of Electronic Engineering with Honours (BEJ)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics, AND Physics OR Chemistry; AND
  2. A minimum pass in English Language subject

Note:-

University will determine the merit and suitability of the applicant's academic grades received from home country.

University reserves the right to determine an alternative relevant subject to Mathematics in the case where the applicant has not taken the subject in his/her examinations.

The applicant must be physically able to do laboratory work.

In addition, applicant for the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering must not be colour blind.
Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Honours (BEV)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics, AND Physics OR Chemistry; AND
  2. A minimum pass in English Language subject

Note:-

University will determine the merit and suitability of the applicant;s academic grade received from home country.

The applicant must be physically able to do laboratory work.

In addition, applicant for the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering must not be colour blind.

Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Honours (BDD)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

Note:-

Aeronautical Engineering Technology (Aircraft Maintenance) with Honours (BDM)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics subject; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in any TWO(2) of the following subject: Physics / Chemistry / Biology; AND
  3. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

Engineering Technology (Aircraft Manufacturing) with Honours (BDX)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics subject; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in any TWO(2) of the following subject: Physics / Chemistry / Biology; AND
  3. A minimum grade C in English Language subject; AND
  4. Candidate must attend interview session with the faculty.

Bachelor if Mechanical Engineering Technology (Plant) with Honours (BDJ)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics subject; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in any TWO(2) of the following subject: Physics / Chemistry / Biology; AND
  3. A minimum grade C in English Language subject.

Bachelor of Technology in Oil and Gas Plant Operation with Honours (BDG)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in any TWO(2) of the following subject: Mathematics / Physics / Chemistry / Biology; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject; AND
  3. Candidate must attend interview session with the faculty.

Faculty of Technology Management and Business

Fakulti Pengurusan Teknologi dan Perniagaan
Technology Management with Honours (BPA)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics and Economics / Commerce / Business Studies / Accounting; AND
  2. A minimum pass in English Language subject

Note:-

University will determine the merit and suitability of the applicant's academic grades received from home country.

University reserves the right to determine an alternative relevant subject to Mathematics in the case where the applicant has not taken the subject in his/her examinations.

The applicant must be physically able to do laboratory work.

The applicant must attend an interview session with the faculty. The faculty reserves the right to determine the applicant's suitability for admission to the academic program based on the interview results. 
Technology Management (Production & Operations ) with Honours (BPB)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics and Economic / Commerce; AND
  2. A minimum pass in English Language subject
  3. Candidate must attend an interview session with the faculty. Faculty reserves the right to decide based on suitability during the session.

Technology Management (Construction) with Honours (BPC)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics and Economics / Commerce; AND
  2. A minimum pass in English Language subject

University will determine the merit and suitability of the applicant's academic grade received from home country.

Real Estate Management with Honours (BPD)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics and Economics / Commerce; AND
  2. A minimum pass in English Language subject

  2. A minimum pass English Language subject

Bachelor of Information Technology with Honours (BIT)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics; AND
  2. A minimum pass in English Language subject

Note:-

University reserves the right to offer English proficiency subject if student does not meet IELTS or its equivalent requirement.

Bachelor of Computer Science (Multimedia Computing) with Honours (BIM)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics and EITHER Physics / Chemistry / Biology / Science; AND
  2. A minimum pass in English Language subject

Note:-

University will determine the merit and suitability of the applicant's academic grade received from home country.

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics and Physics / Chemistry / Computer Science; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

Note:-

Bachelor of Science (Applied Physics) with Honours (BWC)

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics and Physics; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

  3. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

  1. A minimum grade C in Mathematics and Biology; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

  1. A minimum grade C in any TWO(2) of the following subjects: Biology / Chemistry / Mathematics / Physics; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Technology (Manufacturing) with Honours (BNM)

  1. A minimum grade C in any TWO(2) of the following subjects: Biology / Chemistry / Mathematics / Physics; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Technology (Biotechnology) with Honours (BNN)

Applicants must have the following subjects taken at the 'A' level, IB or any other equivalent certificates examinations and obtain:

  1. A minimum grade C in any TWO(2) of the following subjects: Biology / Chemistry / Mathematics / Physics; AND
  2. A minimum grade C in English Language subject

Note:-

Postgraduate

Minimum Entry Requirements for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Programme;

  • Applicant must have a Master’s Degree from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) or any other higher learning institution recognised by the Senate;
     
  • First class Bachelor graduates (CGPA 3.67/4.00) and above may apply for Fast Track PhD (terms and condition apply)

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (FAST TRACK)

  • Applicants must possess a Bachelor Degree with Honours from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) or any other higher learning institution recognised by the Senate with  CGPA 3.67/4.00 and above.

  • Applicants shall be call for an interview prior being offered a place in UTHM postgraduate program. The interview panel members shall include TWO (2) representative from the respective faculty, ONE (1) reperentative from UTHM Centre for Graduate Studies and ONE (1) UTHM Senate member.

  • The Fast Track Research Proposal shall be evaluated in accordance to the rubric (Download)

  • Applicants who complies with the interview requirements shall be offered a place in UTHM Doctor of Philosophy (Fast Track) program.

  • Applicants who do not meet or satisfy the interview requirements shall be offered a place in UTHM Master Program (by research).

Minimum Entry Requirements for Master Degree Programme;

a) Applicant must have a Bachelor Degree with Honours from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) or any other higher learning institution recognised by the Senate with cumulative grade points average (CGPA) as follows: 

 Programme  Minimum CGPA  Coursework   2.50 ; Except for MPA - Master of Business Administration  (CGPA 3.00)   Mixed Mode  2.75  Research   2.75 ; Except for KIT -  Master of Information Technology (CGPA 3.00)

*The above mentioned list of CGPA is the general minimum qualification need to be fulfilled. Please refer to the specific  requirement for the academic programme programme to be applied

b) Applicant with a bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields or equivalent not meeting the minimum CGPA (as listed above) can be accepted subjected to the minimum working experience in the relevant field.

*(ONE (1) year working experience equivalence to 0.1 CGPA)

c) Applicant with a bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields or equivalent not meeting the minimum CGPA without any relevant working experience must undergo and pass (with a minimum of grade B) appropriate enhancement courses determined by the faculty and meet the minimum CGPA based on (a).

(ONE (1) enhancement courses equivalence to 0.1 CGPA)

 d) Applicant with the age of 30 and above (on the year of application) with APEL T7 qualification can be accepted (limited to coursework and mixed mode programmes with area of study as listed below):

  1. Business Administration.
  2. Performing Arts.
  3. Information Technology.
  4. Education.
  5. Management.
  6. Science.
  7. Occupational Health and Safety.
  8. Media Education.
  9. Journalism.
  10. Visual Communication.
  11. Media Communication.
  12. Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.
  13. Electronic Engineering.
  14. Communication Engineering.
  15. Civil Engineering.
  16. Chemical Engineering.
  17. Software Engineering.
  18. Computer Science.
  19. Information System.

MINIMUM ENGLISH  REQUIREMENTS :

1.   Applicants should fulfill the minimum English proficiency level of either

2.  Applicants who graduated with academic qualification from Higher Learning Institutions in Malaysia recognized by the Senate are eligible to apply for exemption from the English Language Proficiency requirements.

3.  Applicants who graduated with academic qualification from Higher Learning Institutions from foreign countries listed as the English Speaking Countries are eligible to apply for exemption from the English Language Proficiency requirements.
